Our Structure
The Trust is a CIO (Charitable Incorporated Organisation). Trustees have limited or no liabilities for CIO debts or liabilities.
The charitable aims of the Trust under its CIO Constitution are:
‘The provision of almshouses for the elderly who are in need and who are residents of the parish of Bungay and the surrounding area and such associated amenities as the trustees may in their absolute discretion deem fit and to use the surplus income arising from the non-almshouse assets for general charitable purposes for the benefit of the Town of Bungay.’
The Trust fulfils the second part of the aims by setting aside an amount for grants for good causes every year. These are initially considered by the Finance Committee, and larger grants are ratified by Full Trust.
As well as through its quarterly meetings, chaired by the Reeve, the Town Trust manages its operations through three committees.
- Almshouses
- Finance
- General Purposes
